The other day my dear friend Robyn (http://robynelainejohnson.tumblr.com), who is responsible for getting me into this whole paper cutting thing, sent me a picture of an old carved turnip (what jack-o-lanterns were originally made from back in Ireland and Scotland.) It was terrifying… and it inspired me to make this (not-so-terrifying) paper cutout.
Our Roots Grow Together
Another illustration made of paper cutouts. This is based on my grandparents’ now-vacant house and the trees my magical grandmother planted for each one of her grandchildren. I am told that the trees have grown to tower over the house, and have made this piece in honor of the family solidarity I think my grandmother always wished for.
